Gardaí believe a woman whose remains were discovered in her home in Westport, Co Mayo, this weekend had been dead for some time.

Gardaí are investigating “all the circumstances” surrounding the death.

The woman’s body was discovered by a relative in an apartment on Castlebar Street on Saturday afternoon.

The woman’s death is being treated as unexplained at present and it was not clear if she had met with foul play. There were no obvious signs of third party involvement, sources said.
