A man in his 40s is in a stable condition in hospital after he doused himself in flammable liquid and set himself alight outside a pub in west Cork.

The man, who is from the Clonakilty area, set himself alight outside Fiddler's Green pub on Croppy Quay in Clonakilty at about 9pm and suffered serious burn injuries.

It is believed the alarm was raised by people in the pub and both the local fire brigade and ambulance personnel  attended to the casualty at the scene.

The man suffered serious burn injuries and was brought by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where his condition was last night described as "stable".
