Gardaí investigating the assault and robbery of a 92-year-old shopkeeper are to send a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions after releasing without charge two men whom they arrested for questioning about the incident.

Shopkeeper Mr Will Carr, from East End, Cobh, suffered a broken arm and injuries to his ribs and face when he was mugged and robbed of a substantial sum of cash by two men.

Yesterday gardaí arrested two eastern European men in their mid-20s in Ballincollig for questioning about the robbery, and brought them to Cobh station where they were held for nine hours before being released.

A Garda spokesman last night confirmed that a file would now be prepared on the matter, and forwarded to the DPP.
