Mother and brother of fire dead still in hospital

THE MOTHER and brother of three family members killed in a fire in Drogheda on Monday morning are still being treated in two Dublin hospitals.

James McDonagh (8), Tony jnr (16) and Martin (21) died in the early morning fire at their home on the Moneymore estate on the northside of Drogheda town.

Their father, Anthony McDonagh, was released from St James’s Hospital in Dublin yesterday afternoon after receiving treatment for his injuries in the burns unit.

His wife, Kathleen McDonagh, remains in intensive care at St James’s Hospital but her injuries are described as “not life-threatening”.

Their son Eddie (13), who managed to escape but was critically injured, is being treated at Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin. His condition was described yesterday as “stable”.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

A minute’s silence was observed at yesterday’s St Patrick’s Day parade in Drogheda as a mark of respect for the McDonagh family.

A group of players representing the Moneymore football club participated in the parade and were very well received by the crowd.

Prayers were offered at religious ceremonies in churches across the town yesterday morning.

The funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
