A new Bill giving extra powers to the Labour Court was introduced by the Minister of State for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mr Tom Kitt. He said the Industrial Relations (Amendment) Bill 2000 would enable the Labour Court to investigate a dispute and issue findings which ultimately could be enforced through the Circuit Court. It would apply in cases where collective bargaining arrangements were not in place, and the parties were not engaged in talks.
