Longford-Westmeath: Second TD elected of four

Kevin "Boxer" Moran has been a Westmeath county councillor since 1999. Once a member of Fianna Fáil, he contested the 2011 Dáil election as an Independent after he was not selected as a party candidate. He unsuccessfully contested the general election in 2011 and the Longford-Westmeath byelection in 2014, polling 6.4 per cent and 11.5 per cent of first-preference votes, respectively. His election priorities are employment and job creation within the constituency, family debt relief, reducing rural crime, protecting the viability of family farms, preventing the closure of rural post offices and the delivery of flood control measures. Moran took on the role of community organiser during the December and January floods, co-ordinating teams of volunteers, mobilising the council and joining in himself to help neighbours. Moran lives in Athlone with his wife and two teenage sons. He is a keen angler and has worked to promote Lough Ree and improve its shoreline amenities.
