Police came under sustained attack in Lurgan last night after receiving reports of a suspected explosive device.
A PSNI spokesman said the device was declared an 'elaborate hoax' which was used to lure police officers into the area.
Officers investigating the device were attacked by crowds throwing petrol bombs, missiles, and what police described as two other hoax devices. There were no injuries as a result of the disturbances in the Co Armagh town.
Services on the Lisburn to Portadown railway line were suspended and passengers were bussed between the two locations.
The suspect device was declared an elaborate hoax by police and the area was declared quiet shortly before 11pm. There were no arrests.
The attack comes just days after two police officers were injured when an explosive device was thrown at them at a toy shop in Newtownabbey.
The officers were called to the Toys R Us store in Mill Road last Thursday night after the alarm went off. Two staff members also suffered shock.
