Cosmonaut lands in Dublin

Space news this week has been dominated by the 50th anniversary celebrations of Yuri Gagarin’s trip into orbit on the first manned spaceflight. To mark the occasion, cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko will give a public talk this evening at The Helix in Dublin City University about his experience of living and working for six months aboard the International Space Station.

The talk, Exploring the Final Frontier, 50 Years On,starts at 7.30pm in The Mahony Hall. The event is fully booked, but you can watch a live stream on dcu.ie/president/FinalFrontier.shtml or heanet.ie

Women in science award

Women in Technology and Science (Wits) is having its 21st anniversary this year, and to celebrate, they are launching The Wits Lifetime Achievement Award.

“The award will be presented to a special woman who is considered to be an icon to others working in either research or a technical area across the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics on the island of Ireland,” according to the organisation.
