Silvinho set to leave Arsenal

Brazilian defender Silvinho will be allowed to leave Arsenal, the club said today.

Brazilian defender Silvinho will be allowed to leave Arsenal, the club said today.

Media reports suggest that he could be a target for Barcelona or Inter Milan in a deal worth around Stg£10 million.

Silvinho became increasingly marginalised in Arsenal's campaign last season, losing his place to emerging England international Ashley Cole.

But the 27-year-old has said he wants first team action this season as he attempts to compete with Roberto Carlos for the left-back role in Brazil's national side.

"Silvinho is in the early stages of being transferred but we do not want to say anything which could jeopardise the deal," David Dein, Arsenal's chief executive, was quoted as saying by British newspapers today.

Silvinho arrived at Highbury from Corinthians in 1999 for Stg£4 million.
