The trade union Siptu has served notice of industrial action on Aer Lingus as part of an ongoing row over pensions. Siptu has said this will involve staggered two-hour work stoppages from Monday, October 1st.
“There is no justification for this course of action,” Aer Lingus said. “We refute strongly Siptu’s claim that a breach of collective agreements has occurred. We call on the Labour Relations Commission to use its good offices to ensure that all parties remain fully engaged in the ongoing discussions.”
Aer Lingus said it remained fully committed to working with all the relevant parties to find an appropriate solution to the pension fund shortfall.
“We believe it is strongly in the interests of all parties that these matters be resolved. We will be assessing the situation over the coming days and we will be communicating proactively with our customers regarding alternative travel arrangements to apply in the event of disruption to scheduled services.”
Siptu has already served notice for similar industrial action on the Dublin Airport Authority.
Talks at the Labour Relations Commission aimed at resolving an ongoing dispute over pensions at Aer Lingus and the DAA were adjourned earlier this week. This was to allow staff of the Labour Relations Commission to draw up a set of proposals aimed at securing a resolution.
