A local community in Co Cork is involved in a collaboration with a third-level institution following the opening of a new centre to co-ordinate field trials of more than €1 million worth of research projects.

The Mallow Systems Innovation Centre will serve as a designated field trial site for research projects being undertaken at Cork Institute of Technology utilising new smart technologies around the town. Mallow Town Council has already deployed technological infrastructure in the town and has set aside facilities to allow research in smart heating systems, smart heritage tours and smart lighting systems.

The innovation centre is part of an initiative by the Mallow Development Partnership and is funded by Cork County Council’s Economic Development Fund, with additional financial support from Mallow Town Council.
