GARDAÍ HAVE arrested three men for questioning after a series of searches in Cork city led to the seizure of €1.5 million of cannabis – the biggest seizure of drugs in Munster this year.

Cork city and Limerick city divisional drug squads mounted a joint operation in which detectives stopped a car on the Boreenamanna Road in Cork city at about 1pm yesterday and recovered a quantity of cannabis resin.

Detectives carried out a follow-up operation in the area and searched a house where they found another quantity of cannabis resin. Gardaí put the total value of the haul at €1.5 million.

The three men – two from Cork and one from Limerick – were detained under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act, which allows for their detention for up to seven days.
