Two people are in custody following the seizure yesterday of drugs worth an estimated €1.3 million in two separate Garda operations.

A man in his 40s was arrested after members of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime units searched premises in the north Co Dublin area in what was described as an "intelligence led operation".

Cannabis resin with an estimated street value of €900,000 was recovered during the search. The man is being held at Ashbourne Garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act) 1996.

Separately, officers from Revenue's customs service with assistance from gardaí seized some 25kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €300,000 in guest accommodation in Dublin's north inner city.

The drugs were seized following routine profiling of a British woman who arrived in Ireland from South Africa. The woman, in her 40s, is being held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act) 1996, at Pearse Street Garda station.
