Union reaches agreement with Gresham Hotel

TRADE UNION Siptu has said that it has reached agreement with management at the Gresham Hotel in a row over redundancies.

The union said that the dispute centred on moves by the company to let go about 30 full- and part -time staff while continuing to employ trainees in their place.

It said that the company had planned to pay only statutory redundancy entitlements to the staff concerned.

However, in a statement yesterday it said that agreement had been reached following 12 hours of talks under the auspices of the Labour Relations Commission.

It said that industrial action, planned at the hotel, had been suspended pending acceptance of the terms of the deal. Details of the agreement were not released.

“Both parties recognise the difficult environment in which the hotel is operating and are pleased that a satisfactory way forward has been reached,” the union said.
