Greencore will be told this week to go back to the Labour Court to get clarification of the redundancy entitlements of around 150 former employees in Mallow, a protest was told on Saturday.
The demand is expected to come from the National Implementation Body (NIB), which is attached to the Department of the Taoiseach, and includes representatives of the Government, employers and trade unions.
Siptu general secretary Joe O'Flynn told the rally, attended by some 1,000 people, he was confident workers could then get their entitlements.
According to Kieran Buckley, chairman of the committee of former Irish Sugar workers, the dispute revolves around Greencore's insistence that redundancy payments be paid on the basis of six weeks pay per year of service based on an hourly rate of pay.
However, the workers say the Labour Court recommended that redundancy payments should be based on six weeks pay per year of service based on the worker's final week's salary and not on their hourly rate. Earlier, Mr Buckley told the rally workers had "endured hardship, heartache and disappointment" at the hands of Greencore.
An Irish Sugar spokeswoman insisted that the redundancy package offered to the Mallow workers was consistent with the Labour Court recommendation.
