A woman from Co Clare last night remained in a "serious but stable condition" after being struck by a snow-plough in California last week.

UL Business Studies graduate, Tara Flynn (22) from the village of Cratloe in Clare was on -holiday snowboarding in the ski resort town of Mammoth Lakes when she was struck by the snow plough last Thursday.

According to a police -statement, Ms Flynn was walking on the shoulder of a road when a snow loader moved right to allow room for an approaching car and its front bucket full of snow struck the woman.

The statement confirmed that Ms Flynn fell to the ground and "the front right wheel of the loader ran over her left leg, crushing it". The statement added that the loader operator said he did not see the woman until he saw a snowboard "flying into the air".

Ms Flynn was transferred to the Renown Regional Medical Centre in Reno Nevada where she remained last night.

It is understood that Ms Flynn is in a light coma and that her parents, Tom and Mary, have flown out to be at her bedside.

Last night, a hospital spokesman said that Ms Flynn remained in a "serious, but stable condition".
