A young Irish man killed in a road traffic collision in New Zealand has been named as Martin Cadden from Co Cavan.
The 22-year-old from Loughduff, Mullahoran, was killed at 11.20pm local time on Friday when the car he was driving hit a tree in the town of Leeston, Canterbury, on the South Island.
There were no other vehicles involved and there were no passengers in Mr Cadden’s vehicle when it apparently went out of control.
Mr Cadden had been in New Zealand since 2013 and had been selling agricultural machinery while on a working holiday visa.
He had attended agricultural college in Cavan and had been living in the small town of Southbridge in the same region where he was killed.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing assistance to his family.
