A man has died while a boy and another man are fighting for their lives after a light aircraft crashed on the approach to an airport runway in Wales.
The victim, who was a passenger in the plane, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at Caernarfon Airport in North Wales.
A second man, aged in his 60s, suffered “serious multiple lower limb injuries” and a boy received head and abdomen injuries, according to the Welsh Ambulance Service.
Both were taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor where their conditions are described as critical.
All three people in the plane — said to be an eight-seater Piper Cherokee — were from the same family in Lancashire.
Emergency services were called to the airport at just before 11.30am today after it is thought the aircraft flipped over on the runway.
Family liaison officers are supporting relatives of the crash casualties, said North Wales Police.
Chief Inspector Darren Wareing said: “An investigation is ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the plane as it approached the runway of Caernarfon Airport to contact police.”
Photographer Richard Birch, who arrived at the airport at about midday, told the Wales Online website: “The air ambulance was already there. There were fire engines and ambulances all over the runway.
“The plane was upside down. It had gone through the runway and crashed into some gorse bushes.”
A spokesman at the airport declined to comment.
