Police in Alaska have charged a man over the murder of an elderly couple and a brutal sex attack on their two-year-old great-granddaughter.
Jerry Active (24), was arrested about a street from an Anchorage apartment where 73-year-old Touch Chea and his wife Sorn Sreap, 71, were found beaten to death on Saturday night.
He is in custody in Anchorage charged with first and second-degree murder, sexual assault and burglary.
The couple were found by their granddaughter, who had returned from a cinema trip with her husband and four-year-old son. They found their home locked from the inside, broke in through a window and discovered the couple’s bodies and a naked man with their daughter in a bedroom.
Sgt Slawomir Markiewicz said the girl’s parents tried to detain the man, but he fled wearing just boxer shorts.
Police said Ms Sreap and Mr Chea had suffered significant blunt force object injuries and both Ms Sreap and the toddler had been sexually attacked.
Police department spokeswoman Anita Shell said investigators were sickened by the brutality and the ages of the victims. “They said this was the worst thing they had ever seen in their lives, and these are seasoned detectives,” Ms Shell said.
The OAPs were babysitting for their great-granddaughter, who was found with what police said were sexual assault injuries. She was taken to an Anchorage hospital and underwent surgery.
The toddler’s parents, along with their children and their own 90-year-old great-grandmother, lived in the same east Anchorage apartment as Ms Sreap and Mr Chea.
Police dispatchers who took the emergency call could hear screaming and a woman said a man had broken into her home and killed her grandmother. The woman described the man as tattooed and fleeing in underwear.
Police detained the suspect about a block from the apartment.
