Sir, – I saw published, last week, the report of Dún Laoghaire County Council’s desire to close more amenities adjacent to our beloved pier.
As if the scarcity of seating and the rarity of performance thereon isn’t poor form enough, but to deprive avid locals, walkers and tourists alike of hot refreshments at the dawn of a most refreshing stroll is just bureaucracy at its most unpleasant.
I appreciate there are works going on (still) but Dún Laoghaire Rathdown thrives, at all times of the year, on the locals and visitors’ ambling habits which are always better rounded out by a coffee and perhaps a chip or two for good measure. – Yours, etc,

A chara, – The Local Government Audit Service has criticised Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for overspending on the refurbishment of Dún Laoghaire Baths.
Would it not be better to recognise the sustainability development of a swimming pool that makes zero demand on water supply and requires zero energy for water heating – the advantages of reopening the baths without a swimming pool? – Is mise,
