Sir, – This week my wife and I rose at 6.30am to catch an 8.35am bus Limerick to Dublin Airport, then a flight to Marseilles at 1.15pm. This flight departed 55 minutes late due to a “tech issue”. In all it took 10 hours to reach Marseilles, due to being forced to fly from Dublin Airport.
There are now five million air travellers from the Shannon Airport region, flying via Dublin Airport annually, who have to endure these marathon travel days, due to insufficient consideration being afforded by both airlines and government to the needs of air travellers from the midwest region.
This at a time when airlines are demanding that the passenger cap at Dublin Airport be increased from 32 million to 40 million. Airlines say pilots prefer to locate in Dublin.
Pilots blame the airlines.

This Government and Minister for Transport need to sort out this madness and waste of time and fuel, not to mention damage to the environment, by insisting the passenger cap remains at 32 million for Dublin, until the industry gets its act together and share the number of routes to meet the clear demand from the regions.
This enforced “stopover” in Dublin is costing the country way way too much in lost time. Get a grip, Government, and intervene urgently. – Yours, etc,
