Sir, – Before May 22nd, I would like to hear clearly and understandably why our Taoiseach and perhaps other Fine Gael Cabinet members think it would be a good thing to have a 21-year-old president of Ireland.
Perhaps they have valid comparisons, such as 21-year-old Supreme Court judges, or 21-year-old senior university professors that might show the depth of comprehension we might expect when our president is called upon to state Ireland’s view on a world situation.
This issue was not forced upon the Government. It deliberately selected it from a broad menu offered by the consultative process on possible changes to the Constitution. – Yours, etc,
