Sir, – It has reached the stage where it is no longer feasible for some artists to apply to the Arts Council for funding. The time spent completing detailed funding applications on the small chance of receiving funds is time that oftentimes would be better spent creating art, writing, composing and rehearsing.
The level of funding on offer has been cut so much that it is no longer worth the time commitment to complete the application form, to the detriment of many innovative and valuable projects. Perhaps a two-tiered approach could be introduced. The Arts Council could review these initial submissions and then invite detailed applications from those in with a chance.
It would free up a lot of time wasted on unsuccessful applications.– Yours, etc,
GAVIN BRENNAN,
