Sir, – I almost choked on my cornflakes as I read Keith Duggan’s report on the Tyrone v Donegal match alleging it was “a breathtaking football match” (Sports Monday, July 18th.
Fortunately I had already read Malachy Clerkin‘s description two pages earlier of “a game that asphyxiated on its own throttling”. At least that cleared the air. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Now that “football” has been eliminated from Gaelic football by most counties, is it time for the GAA to allow them play rugby league in England? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – It strikes me that with a few simple rule changes, the GAA could save their football players a fair bit of money. Say the goalie were allowed restart play using a fisted pass like Aussie rules, sidelines to be taken soccer-style and reintroduce the hand-goal of yore. This would allow players option to wear slippers or runners or even go barefoot, thus saving themselves a few hundred euro buying expensive boots. – Yours, etc,
