DUP deal with the Conservatives

Sir, – I disagree with your editorial (June 27th) stating the deal struck by the DUP was a good one for Northern Ireland. The DUP has mismanaged the use of public funds in the North of Ireland in the "cash for ash" scheme, and I dread to think how it will mismanage a billion pounds.

Surely it would have been far more sensible if Theresa May provided financial support on condition that the Northern Ireland parties formed a working government first? – Yours, etc,

Sir,– I have noticed that the British and Irish media regularly use the term “Tory” to refer to the present UK government. “Tory” comes from the Irish tóraidhe and referred to the dispossessed Catholic Irish rapparees who preyed on Protestant English settlers.

In light of this week’s agreement, perhaps we should revert to the correct title: “Conservative and Unionist Party”. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – What will the DUP do with the extra billion? That’s the burning question. – Yours, etc,
