Sir, – In the penultimate paragraph of Michael Jansen’s report “Withdrawal of US funding could harm Israel itself” (World News, January 4th), she refers to “...Palestinians living in Israeli-occupied Gaza”. It seems that she has forgotten Israel’s unilateral withdrawal of all of its of civilians and military personnel from the Gaza Strip in September 2005. And, for the record, what did they get in return for this action? A never-ending barrage of rockets and mortars targeting civilian population centres in southern Israel. – Yours, etc,
