Sir, – As a regular walker on the Great South Wall, I wish to say happy 300th birthday to this beautiful structure which remains a mystery to so many Dubliners.
On a recent walk my friend and I commented on how the granite blocks had moved and settled and became uneven over the centuries. This makes walking difficult and means that elderly and disabled people cannot enjoy this unique and wonderful experience.
A simple and inexpensive solution. Lay a narrow (2 metres, say) strip of flat asphalt down the centre. It would enhance the walk for all as you would not need to be looking down all the time.
I am confident that one of our new high tech neighbours who have embraced Dublin docks to their hearts would be happy to sponsor a birthday present for this old friend. – Yours, etc,
HARRY CROSBIE,
North Wall,
