Less gloomy Merrion Square

Sir, – I walk through Merrion Square Park from the south side every single morning on my way to work and, contrary to Jackie Hill's experience (Letters, March 30th) I had the sense of "being lost in the Stygian reaches of a deep forest".

This was not the best preparation for a day’s work and was particularly true during the winter months. Thankfully, due to the initiative of the park authorities, I can now look forward to being immediately welcomed by rolling lawns, flowers and shrubs, set out with the usual inimitable care by the Merrion Square gardeners. – Yours, etc, MARTIN McDONALD Terenure, Dublin 12.
