Sir, – I read with interest the intelligent article by Des O'Neill (July26th) in relation to ageing and negative stereotyping and how that can affect us. Perhaps his article could be passed on for compulsory reading to those in Safe food Ireland currently running an ageist and insulting ad campaign telling us that older people are not able to cope with bacteria as they used to and how to clean a chopping board!
Surely the message is that one either knows how to prepare and store food safely or not, and age is irrelevant.
