Sir, – Tony Forde (Letters, July 18th) asks if academics should be allowed to write letters under the flag of their institute, especially when their opinions relate to their faculty's field.
Whatever about that, surely the greatest risk is presented by academics who cite their position when writing outside the expertise that justified their appointment.
Are we to believe that every lecturer in the natural sciences is also expert in social and education policy?
