Personal responsibility and Covid

Sir, – It is curious that the word “vaccination” does not appear anywhere in Professor Orla Muldoon’s piece (Opinion, December 2nd) on the roles of personal responsibility and systematic failure in the Covid crisis.

In downplaying the role of personal responsibility, one might have expected her to address the massive over-representation of the unvaccinated among Covid patients in ICU. And, given that she previously described the vaccination programme as having been “beset by issues of queue-jumping and corruption” (“Vaccine hesitancy brewing up to be big problem”, Opinion, May 11th), it is surprising that she doesn’t include that programme among the systematic failures she lists.

– Yours, etc,

ROBERT CARROLL,
