Sir, – Kate O'Toole (Home & Design, April 29th) bemoans the interpretation of EC health and safety rules as a complete ban on pets in pubs, or any establishment where food is "prepared, handled or stored".
She should take her dog to the UK where the same EC regulations are interpreted in a much more sensible fashion.
There, pets are banned from areas where food is prepared or stored, but not from rooms where it is served, provided reasonable precautions are taken to avoid cross-contamination.
Once again, Irish authorities have adopted the nuclear option in interpreting EC regulations.
