Project Arts Centre ‘Repeal the Eighth’ mural

Sir, – I don't suppose the "Repeal the Eighth" mural at the Project Arts Centre in Dublin was "taxpayer-funded" in the same way a mural at the Department of Health would be. But the whole saga is an amusing echo, just the same, of a line from A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man: "I'll pay your dues, father, when you cease turning the house of God into a polling booth."

Sir, – In reference to Jim Stack's assertion that "these people . . . should know instinctively that balance and fairness are part of their job description" (Letters, 27th July), maybe "these people" know instinctively that equating the life of a woman to that of an embryo is unbalanced and unfair.

Sir, – What’s more off the wall – removing a “Repeal the Eighth” mural or removing freedom of expression by artists in a democracy?

Sir, – Your reproduction of the offending mural [in a news report] was a cynical move and shows unbelievable bias.

It is beneath your paper to behave in the same manner as the Project Arts Centre.
