Schools, league tables and statistics

Sir, – I write to correct the statistics published on Thursday, December 3rd, in your supplement on school league tables.

In relation to Luttrellstown Community College, four students who went to DCU were not included, and the table stated that only three students went to NUI Maynooth, instead of 13. Also, the table did not include a student doing a Level 7 course. This brings our total to 41 instead of the figure of 26 that was published.

We are a new school and the 2015 cohort was our first Leaving Certificate.

The article stated that only 71 per cent of this year’s college registration are of students who sat the Leaving in June 2015 and that the figures for other schools include students who deferred a place last year, or who went to a PLC and are now progressing into a higher degree course. In fact over 90 per cent of our 2015 Leaving Certificate students are currently studying at third level.

We object to the publishing of league tables as they omit any reference to success in the arts, sports, enterprise, Young Social Innovators, debating, etc, or to any of the tiny personal victories that occur during the school day. – Yours, etc,

The figures in the tables were supplied by the third-level institutions. – Ed. IT.
