The price of stamps

Sir, – Eamonn Bennett (June 4th) draws attention not only to the increased cost of postage but also to the frequency of these increases.

The frequent price changes can be quite irritating for those of us who like to buy our postage stamps in advance and are never quite sure what the current postage rate is and must return to the post office to purchase supplementary stamps which are not always available.

The Royal Mail issues stamps with a non-monetary specified value which can still be used after the introduction of a new pricing system. Is it not time that An Post followed suit? After all stamps purchased in advance are essentially a loan given to An Post. – Yours, etc,
