Sir, – The debate on water charges seems to have reached its canonical pinhead, judging by theletter from Paul Murphy TD (September 29th). The argument about the number of people who intend to pay, or have paid, or might pay, is sterile because nobody cares except the Anti-Austerity Alliance. Does he not see that the grand scheme for revolution over water charges is lost on a society that values common sense above bombast? The Anti-Austerity Alliance should realise that numerous social problems facing us are being overlooked for the sake of spending time on a lost cause. – Yours, etc,
JOHN O’CONNOR,
Rathmines, Dublin 6.
