Sir, – On the topic of Seanad reform, perhaps we can address the one section of the population forgotten about when talking about politics– 16- and 17-year-old citizens. Allowing young people to vote in the Seanad elections would increase their interaction with the political scene, and would allow them to address problems seen by them in Irish society. Although I wouldn’t yet be able to vote, being 15, it would still make me feel that the country values my voice and opinions, and those of countless other young people as well. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Any proposals for Seanad reform should include measures to include more young people in our legislature. Younger citizens have been increasingly marginalised as our political parties and our Oireachtas have become distinctly greyer. This country needs to hear the voices of a new generation. – Yours, etc,
ANNE BYRNE,
