Shelbourne chief executive Ollie Byrne has confirmed he will be appealing the recent decision of the FAI's licensing committee to deduct eight points from Shamrock Rovers over problems with their accounts.
"They did not have the authority to deduct points and take the licence and then say they could stay in football," he said.
"I already informed the FAI and Rovers that I felt the way it was dealt with was wrong."
In a separate development, Byrne has called for Rovers to be penalised for the part a number of youths, most of them wearing either Rovers or Celtic shirts, played in incidents before Saturday's Setanta Cup final. Three people were charged with public order offences.
Meanwhile, Atalanta were relegated to Italy's Serie B yesterday but clubs of the stature of Fiorentina, Parma and Bologna could still join them next week in what promises to be a nerve-wracking finale with nine teams still trying to avoid the drop.
