Classy James Kielt points way to victory for Derry

Fermanagh’s bid falls flat following a bright opening half

DERRY 1-11 FERMANAGH 2-4: Four second-half points from James Kielt and a first-half salvo from new-boy Aaron Kerrigan were the key scores as Derry overcame a gritty but outgunned Fermanagh side at blustery Owenbeg.

First half goals from Sean and Seamus Quigley saw Fermanagh lead by 2-3 to 1-4 at half-time but playing against the wind in the second half the Erne men could only manage a single point a period that saw Kielt kick four points which proved the margin of victory.

With three minutes gone, Derry's brightest forward Aaron Kerrigan fired home from eight yards but Fermanagh replied in kind from the next attack as Seamus Quigley blasted home a rasping finish to the roof of Eoin McNicholl's net.

Sean Quigley fired home Fermanagh's second goal to edge the visitors in front.
