Roscommon’sgood start does for Roscommon

John Evans’ side score ten unanswered points

Roscommon 2-13 NUIGalway 1-5

Ten unanswered points from Roscommon to start the game meant John Evans' side were never in trouble in the FBD League against NUI Galway at Ballyforan.

The students – who played Mayo in their competition opener less than 48 hours earlier – looked lethargic and clueless at times.

Roscommon led by 0-11 to 1-0 at half-time and drove home their advantage in the 33rd minute when Conor Devaney won possession at the edge of the square and hit the net.

As he did against Mayo, NUIG goalkeeper Donal O'Sullivan put in a heroic performance with three outstanding saves, but he was at fault for Roscommon's second goal in the 46th minute as Cathal Cregg finished easily.
