Rathdowney-Errill dethrone Camross in Laois

Reigning club hurling champions trailed by six at the break and got left behind in second half

Rathdowney-Errill 1-20 Camross 0-10

Reigning champions Camross surrendered their Laois senior hurling title to Rathdowney-Errill in a one sided contest at O’Moore Park.

The champions of two years ago claimed their fifth title thanks mainly to the performance of their full forward line.

Teenager Mark Kavanagh pounced for the only goal after the Camross goalkeeper denied full forward Ross King, who accounted for 10 points of his side’s total.

Camross were still in contention until Kavanagh netted after 20 minutes and he also added three first half points.

Zane Keenan kept the champions in touch with four first half points leaving the half time score 1-10 to 0-7 in favour of the challengers.

The second half was dominated by Rathdowney-Errill with full forward King adding another five points to his first half total.

With 15 minutes remaining, the margin was nine points, but the champions only added three second half points and never looked like reeling that lead in.
