Holders Cork breezed into the quarter-finals with a 37-point drubbing of a Mary Immaculate College side that way out of its depth in Mallow yesterday.

Despite playing against the wind from the start and facing defence-minded opponents, Cork completely dominated matters and had booked their last-eight place against Tipperary by the interval, when they led by 3-9 to 0-2.

The three goals came in quick succession in the run-in to the break, with Jamie O’Sullivan claiming the first in the 31st minute, followed by a John Hayes effort moments later and newcomer Fiachra O Deasunaigh adding to the tally in stoppage-time.

Eoin Cadogan, who came on to partner the impressive Michael Cussen at midfield in the second-half, announced his arrival by scoring the fourth goal after 38 minutes.

And Cork finished with three more goals in the closing 10 minutes with Colm O'Driscoll netting twice and Donncha O'Connor bagging the other.
