In their first competitive visit to the United States, Garda Rowing Club did themselves proud with an excellent second place on Saturday in the club eights at the Head of the Charles in Boston. The Garda eight went off 66th of the 78 crews which competed, but overcame this to put all but Harvard University behind them when the final results were compiled. Harvard's winning time of 16 minutes 20.80 seconds was just over three seconds ahead of Garda's 16:23.93. Clonmel finished 31st and University of Limerick 55th.

In the women's club four Neptune, who went off 41st finished seventh, just over 51 seconds behind the winners, Saugatuck Rowing Association from Connecticut, and in the men's equivalent Garda's four finished 10th as San Diego RC took the laurels. In the women's eight Trinity College, Dublin finished 46th.
