Luke Donald will play the British Open at Royal Troon

The Englishman replaces Jaco van Zyl who has withdrawn from the 145th Open

Luke Donald will play at next week's Open at Royal Troon following the withdrawal of South African Jaco van Zyl.

Donald comes in for what will be his 14th appearance at The Open, having already played at Royal Troon on two occasions.

The 38-year-old competes in the Scottish Open this week at Castle Stuart - he is currently 83rd in the world and hasn’t won a competition since the 2012 BMW PGA Championship.

Nonetheless the Englishman still harbours hopes of making this summer’s Ryder Cup squad. Talking ahead of this weekend’s Scottish Open he told reporters - “It’s certainly still an aim of mine but if I want to be part of the team I’m going to have to start playing better and producing some results with a win or two.”
