No Kerry boss in pipeline

Kerry may wait another month or so before finalising a replacement for All-Ireland winning manager Jack O'Connor.

The county was thrown into unwelcome disarray with O'Connor's announcement this week and the subsequent decision of front-runner Eoin Liston to withdraw from the succession race for personal reasons.

"It's a bit hectic," acknowledged county chair Seán Walsh. "We need to make the appointment as soon as possible with the team going away on holiday in December and the league starting back in February.

"We have a system for doing this in Kerry. At next Tuesday's county executive meeting we'll appoint a sub-committee to put together a list of candidates and hopefully, have something for the county board at the next meeting on November 7th. That may be a bit tight though and if so we'll convene an extraordinary meeting for shortly afterwards."

Walsh also pointed out that O'Connor's decision to step down had been flagged in advance.

"People forget that when I asked Jack to stay on (after the 2005 defeat by Tyrone) he said he'd give it one more year and that was that. He never committed to anything longer-term than that."
