Ireland’s James McGee will play China’s Ze Zhang on Friday afternoon for a place in the main draw at the US Open after he came back from a set down to beat India’s Yuki Bhambri 5-7 6-2 7-5 at Flushing Meadows on Thursday night.

After winning the second set 6-2, the 27-year-old from Castleknock was then broken in the final set before storming back to beat the number 30 seed 7-5.

Zhang beat American Austin Krajicek 7-6 4-6 6-2 to win through to the final qualifying round. His match with McGee is second on court at Court 8, with the first game starting at 4.0pm Irish time.
