Shelbourne once more played second fiddle to arch-rivals St Patrick's Athletic last night. The Inchicore club progressed to the decider of the National League Super Cup following a 5-4 penalty shoot-out win at Morton Stadium, Santry. The game ended scoreless after 90 minutes.
Shelbourne's Tony Sheridan came the closest on the hour mark when a spectacular strike came crashing off the cross bar.
A penalty shoot-out ensued and with St Patrick's ahead 5-4, Shelbourne's Liam Kelly stepped up but his spot-kick was well saved by Trevor Woods. St Patrick's now meet Shamrock Rovers in the final on Sunday afternoon in Tolka Park. The third place play-off will be decided between Cork City and Shelbourne in the preceding game.
