Two brilliant first-half goals for Ballygunner by Tipperary man Andy Moloney contributed hugely to the elimination of Toomevara from the Munster club hurling championship in Saturday's semi-final replay at Walsh Park.

Moloney, who is living in Waterford, struck in the 17th and 23rd minutes to set the winners on their way to a 2-5 to 0-8 interval lead.

The Waterford champions withstood strong pressure at the end but just held out to qualify for a provincial final against Blackrock of Cork in Thurles next Sunday.

The tough nature of the exchanges were reflected in referee Ger Harrington issuing eight yellow cards, evenly divided before sending off Toomevara's Eoin Brislane 10 minutes from time. Toome were only a point down at that stage and pressing.

Ballygunner substitute Tony Carroll eased the pressure with a point but Tommy Dunne replied from a 65 in the 56th minute and in the dying seconds Ken Dunne just missed the equaliser from a narrow angled free.
