Connacht have signed Piers O’Conor, an Irish qualified centre from Bristol Bears in the English Premiership.

O’Conor, aged 28, will join the province during the summer after a six-year spell under former Connacht coach Pat Lam at Ashton Gate.

Predominantly a centre, O’Conor has also played at fullback and on the wing. Born in Australia, O’Conor played for Ireland U19s and England U20s as he progressed through the underage systems. Yet to be capped at senior international level, he qualifies for Ireland through his grandfather with roots in Roscommon and Dublin.

“We’re thrilled to be welcoming Piers to Connacht Rugby from next season,” said head coach Pete Wilkins. “He’s an outstanding player with a wealth of experience in the Premiership and European rugby, and his versatility will perfectly complement our existing options across the outside backs.”
