Ireland is ranked fifth in the world by prestigious US university the Massachusetts Institute of Technology – known as MIT - for its progress towards a green future. It ranked seventh out of the 76 countries examined for climate policy, which covered such areas as carbon pricing and sustainable agriculture. And Ireland ranked second in the world for having a green society, which measured green buildings, recycling and forestation.
Recognising and applauding the innovation and hard work done by those who have brought about this transformation in Ireland’s economy is what the Green Awards have been doing for the past 15 years. And 2024 will be no different, with close to 30 categories being hotly contested.
Climate solutions company Bord na Móna has signalled its support for the awards by once again becoming Title Sponsor. Tom Donnellan, chief executive at Bord na Móna said: “At Bord na Móna, we lead by example, unlocking opportunities through the development of new solutions to meet our climate goals. We embrace and implement green energy solutions to support Ireland’s journey to net zero. Bord na Móna is proud to have achieved an unprecedented transition to support in the delivery of a secure supply of clean renewable energy to Irish communities; home-grown energy that will protect the environment for future generations. As leaders in providing climate solutions, it is also important we commend and celebrate others who are making outstanding contributions to a thriving sustainable economy, and that is why we are delighted to return, for the third consecutive year, as the title sponsor for the Green Awards in 2024.”
Bord na Móna is an Irish, semi-state climate solutions company supporting energy security for Ireland while helping deliver a climate-neutral future. Bord na Móna provides employment for approximately 1,500 people and manages a land holding of more than 80,000 hectares.

Kevin O’Driscoll, director of Partner Programmes at The Green Awards’ organiser BusinessRiver, welcomed the support from Bord na Móna. “Awards don’t happen in a vacuum. They rely on sponsors, and the prestige of the awards is linked to the quality of those who back them. That makes it a huge honour that Bord na Móna has again thrown its weight behind Ireland’s prestigious Green Awards. A company that leads by example brings kudos to the awards,” he said.
